The Inner Voice: A Source Of Light for Unfolding Consciousness
A column I write/edit for Natures Pathways magazine, Appleton, Wisconsin

I am fortunate to be Meredith's friend and I have experienced firsthand the dynamics of her healing work. In early January I received an e-mail link to a You-Tube video produced by Meredith and was moved to share it here with you. It’s a great inspiration for us to be mindfully aware of everything around us because we never know how or when an answer to our heartfelt prayers will appear, or how we will be guided to proceed.

Your Hallelujah Chorus
Perhaps George Fredric Handel’s musical masterpiece The Messiah was still playing in my ears this morning as I settled down to record my weekly inspiration for you. I could picture his scenario of discouragement and hen discovery, much as we might feel about our situation right now. The holidays are over, the bills are pouring in, all the things we put off until later are now due. Where do we turn? What can help lift our spirits and our life’s essence?

Let me share a story about Handel’s time of discovery. One night in 1741, depressed and defeated, Handel wandered the deserted streets in a small town in Germany, returning to his shabby room at dawn. As he prepared to fall into bed, he noticed a package on the table. It was from a close friend who had sent some of Handel's own music, but with scriptures scribbled over the top.

He said to himself (as perhaps we often have), 'Oh, I don't have time for this! – because it isn’t clear how this will help my situation or solve my problems.'

But something kept waking him up. He finally got up and went to his piano and he began to play and write. The music just poured from his heart. The musical piece completed three weeks later was to be known as The Messiah and within it the glorious Hallelujah Chorus. He later proclaimed, "I do believe I have seen all of Heaven before me and the great God Himself!"

I'm struck by two things that seem important for us to consider as we embark on this New Year. First, we all need to feel celebrated by our own Hallelujah chorus, whether or not our work is perceived by the world as a masterpiece. And second, when something comes to you unexpectedly, welcome it because spirit may be sending you the means to a new ending for a current struggle.

Take a breath and settle into your deep heart. Put your hands over your chest and know that when you feel out-of-sync with yourself or with life, imagine God's Hallelujah Chorus playing in your ears, and that Spirit has something in mind for you. Wait, watch, and listen for the arrival of your special package.

We've all had light bulbs go off in our heads just in time to get us out of a jam, to enlighten us, or to show us a different way to see a situation. I've learned that these flashes of light, these moments of spontaneous clarity, is a form of inner guidance – an angelic presence, if you will – managing to intervene with wisdom and love at precisely the moment it is needed. This intervention happened to me several years ago on the very day my fiancé died suddenly. I prayed and screamed at God, promising that if I got through that experience alive, I’d help others so they didn’t have to suffer.

My life changed in that instant. It took me a while to gather up all the pieces of my shattered life and put it all back together, but in the very instant I uttered that plea, I heard a very powerful, yet loving voice speaking to me from somewhere inside my head, “This is not the end, Dearest Nancy, it’s just the beginning.”

In the days following the funeral, the voice seemed to be shouting to get my attention. Concerned I had lost my mind, I tried to sign myself into a psychiatric hospital, but the doctor somehow knew I was all right ... just experiencing grief. What was happening was that I was awakening to a deeper level of being. I didn’t understand it at the time, but I knew there was no denying this voice. The volume was turned up and I had to listen. It was the voice of my guardian angel who called himself “Sreper, Angel of the Great White Light.”

It took me a while to learn how to communicate with this angel and some of the early messages were from my deceased fiance, as I understood, so we could say goodbye. (I was told that he was equally as sad, and the angels had arranged this so we could both move on!) Their kind and loving wisdom healed my heart and eventually allowed me to keep my promise to help others.

During the next few years, people with all kinds of diseases and conditions who needed the angel's light and wisdom somehow found me. (I see now that the angels directed all of it.) Their messages and the stunning affects they had on people inspired me to write and publish a magazine called The Inner Voice (1992-2000).

Over the years, recipients of the readings and the readers of The Inner Voice told me how Sreper’s wisdom changed their lives. I’ve learned that everything happens for a very good reason regardless of appearances in the present moment. We also can benefit greatly when we allow this type of guidance to light our path and reveal the true meaning of why things happen.

The angels are ever-sounding their trumpets, calling us to call on them and ask our heartfelt questions ... and not to stop there! We need to learn to tune in and listen for their answers! They are our true friends who are ever-willing to shine the light on our ‘Earth School’ path. Healing can be as simple as our opening up to new ideas and allow Divine Guidance to simply intervene!

Best-selling author and affirmationist, Louise Hay says in her book, You Can Heal Your Life that all things can be healed. I’ve seen it happen again and again, and it happens quickly when we see the blessing it brings us.
